This ancient burial sites in
Japan, consisting of 49 tombs dating back to the late 4th and 5th century, has now been listed as a World Heritage site, increasing Japan's total number of UNESCO sites to 23. The
kofun ('old mounds' in Japanese) are located above the Osaka Plain and were tombs for members of the elite. They are believed to contain a range of funerary objects like armour, weapons and ornaments.
